Worm Composting Bin — Cedar (Tiered)

A two-tray stacking vermicomposting system built from untreated cedar, sized at 18"x12"x12" per tray. Worms start in the bottom tray and migrate upward through mesh screens as they finish processing each layer, so you harvest castings from below without disturbing the active colony. The bottom tray includes a drainage channel and spigot for collecting worm tea — a concentrated liquid fertilizer you can dilute and apply directly to garden beds. Cedar is the right wood here because it resists moisture and fungal growth without any coatings that could harm the worms. Works indoors in a basement or mudroom, or outdoors in a shaded spot. Sized for a household of two to four people producing typical kitchen scraps.
